About Nice Jewish Board Games
Jewish families have gathered around tables for thousands of years. We tell stories over challah, debate Torah at the Shabbos table, and celebrate holidays with food, song, and togetherness. But when it comes to board games, the options that actually reflect our culture have always been thin — generic trivia decks, dated designs, or novelty items that end up in a closet after one use.
Nice Jewish Board Games exists to change that. We design and publish board games that are rooted in Jewish life — not as a gimmick or a reskin of something else, but as genuinely great games that happen to draw from the depth, humor, and richness of Jewish tradition.
Our Mission
We believe the best way to teach is through play. Not lectures, not worksheets — play. When a game is genuinely fun, the learning becomes effortless. Players absorb concepts, ask questions, and retain knowledge because they want to, not because they have to. That principle drives every design decision we make.
Our games are built for real families. They work at the Shabbos table on a Friday night, at a Chanukah party with cousins of all ages, in a classroom or youth group setting, or on an ordinary Tuesday when someone says, “Let’s play something.” We design for moments of connection — the kind where phones go down and conversation picks up.
Why Board Games Matter
In a world of screens and notifications, board games are one of the few things that bring families face-to-face with a shared goal. They teach kids how to strategize, how to lose gracefully, and how to celebrate someone else’s win. For Jewish families specifically, they offer something even deeper: a way to pass down tradition through joy rather than obligation.
Every game we create goes through rigorous playtesting with families across denominations — Orthodox, Conservative, Reform, and secular. The goal is always the same: a game that anyone at the table can enjoy, regardless of their background or level of observance.
Our First Game: Gut Shabbos
Our debut title, Gut Shabbos, is a strategic board game that teaches halacha (Jewish law) through gameplay. Players navigate 7 regions of the Jewish world, encounter 7 unique characters, and answer questions that range from accessible to deeply learned. It plays 2-7 players, ages 8 and up, in 20 to 90 minutes. Pre-orders are open now, with shipping planned for Fall 2026.
We are just getting started. More games are in development, each one built with the same philosophy: beautiful design, genuine cultural depth, and the kind of fun that makes people ask, “Can we play again?”
